The oil for hydraulic disc brakes is contained within the hydraulic hoses that connect the pump (i.e. the brake lever) to the brake body. When we act on the lever, also known as the master cyclinder, the oil transfers the force imparted to the two pistons, which push the pads against the rotor and thus allow the stroke to be slowed down. This is possible thanks to the incompressible characteristics of the oil, which transmits the force without absorbing it. The operation of a disc brake is based on the friction between disc and pad, which generates considerable heat that is also transmitted to the system and therefore to the oil, which must be able to withstand stress without reaching the boiling point.
